Virtual Bowling Game Kicks Off Fundraising Campaign

Arlington, VA, September 2, 2005 — Beaconfire Consulting has developed and launched a Web-based bowling experience for Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies across the country as part of a campaign designed to raise funds for the youth mentoring organization.

The Pin Pals! bowling game, created using “Flash,” is located on a specially-created campaign site and is the online companion to Big Brothers Big Sisters’ signature fundraising event, Bowl for Kids’ Sake. These bowling events have raised millions of dollars over the past 20 years for BBBS by encouraging sponsors to donate funds as Big and Little Brothers and Sisters team up for bowling games at local lanes. An estimated 360 agencies around the country use Bowl for Kids Sake.

With Pin Pals!, participants now can go online, select a virtual Little Brother or Little Sister as a “pin pal,” bowl a game on the Web, and then enter a sweepstakes and make a donation at the end of the game. Several corporate sponsors including Holiday Inn, Rent a Center, and Benefit Cosmetics have partnered to provide sweepstakes prizes. Play Pin Pals!

The online bowling campaign was designed not only to raise money through the Web but also to reinforce the connection of Big Brothers Big Sisters to the bowling event tradition and to encourage communities without local bowling events to join in the fun of bowling. The game includes a viral component to boost participation and awareness–online bowlers can “challenge a friend” via email to participate in a virtual bowling game.
