News: Donors gave more, but responded less often in 2005
Arlington, VA, March 20, 2006 —
Online donors gave 40% more to leading nonprofit organizations in 2005 than in 2004 -- but opened fewer appeals and other emails from those same charities, according to a new study.
The eNonprofit Benchmarks Study, co-sponsored by Beaconfire Consulting, is a first of its kind look at the overall effectiveness of nonprofits using the Internet to raise money, build email lists, and influence policy.
Study authors analyzed online fundraising and political activism, email messaging, email list growth, and other metrics from fifteen top national nonprofit organizations and three online service providers serving nonprofits from 2003 to 2005.
“The results demonstrate that a consistent and proactive online program is a solid investment for nonprofit organizations,” said Michael Cervino, co-founder of Beaconfire and contributor to the study. “Organizations can use this study to refine their expectations and their strategies for their online program.”
