Beaconfire Launches Redesigned Site for Heifer International
Falls Church, Va., February 27, 2004 —
Beaconfire Consulting has launched a redesigned Web site for Heifer International, a nonprofit world hunger organization with headquarters in Little Rock, Ark.
The new site continues the organization's online leadership by significantly expanding the scope of information about Heifer's innovative programs and increasing opportunities for people to get involved in its life-changing work. Building on seven plus years as Heifer International's interactive partner, Beaconfire developed a strategic Web and technology plan in 2003 that drove the redesigned Web presence.
Beaconfire built the new Web site in partnership with Free Range Graphics, a Washington, D.C.-based design firm. The site implementation required custom development to interweave various technologies including CrownPeak's Advantage CMS content management system and GetActive's messaging software.
"Heifer site creative, content management, email marketing and online fundraising draw upon different vendors and technologies," said Eileen Dolbeare, New Media Director at Heifer International. "The new site seamlessly integrates them into a cohesive user experience. Beaconfire was instrumental in helping us craft a strategic plan for integration and development."
The 60-year-old charity has attracted thousands of donors looking for a meaningful way to give a gift and alleviate world hunger at the same time. The site offers a quick and convenient way to buy a gift online raising more than 9.1 million online this fiscal year. Heifer's previous Web site was named one of the six "hottest" Web sites by The Nonprofit Times in September 2003 and the organization's online catalog has generated millions of dollars in gifts to combat world hunger.
The new site offers an Interactive Project Map, which provides users the opportunity to view specific details about over 400 specific Heifer projects in 75 countries including project budget, dates, and animals provided.
Other highlights of the new site include:
- A Flash feature on the homepage that provides snapshots of the impact Heifer International's work.
- Expanded information for educators, volunteers, and other Heifer supporters. For example, travelers can learn how to participate in a Heifer study tour, adult learners can find out about Heifer U, and teachers can link to Heifer's renowned "Read to Feed" program.
- Improved navigation, graphics and overall user experience for a more enjoyable online visit.
The new Web site will enable Heifer International to offer its online constituents with more information and ways to be involved in the important life-saving work of the organization.
