Getting it All in One Place: Data Integration Strategies

Panel Presentation at the NTEN Regional Conference in Washington, DC on October 11, 2005 by:

  • Gary Bond, Director, Information Services, Human Rights First (HRF)
  • Yasmina Mudarres, Assistant Director, Field Operations, Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA)
  • Usha Venkatachallam, Solutions Architect, Beaconfire Consulting

Organizations solve data related problems in myriad ways. This session outlined three data integration approaches that were successful:

  1. Use custom scripts to get your online system to send data across to many offline systems
  2. Use web services to get two systems to integrate and exchange data between each other
  3. Use automated bulk import/export utilities to get all online and offline systems to send data to a single data warehouse

Panelists talked about how to plan and implement data integration and also shared best practices and lessons learned.
