TakeColor

Posted Tuesday, August 23rd, 2005 at 12:50 pm by Andrew (9 posts)

Ever looked at a section of a website and thought, “That’s a great color–I wonder what it is?” TakeColor is a cool little tool that’ll answer that question. It’s freeware that will tell you the color value of any pixel in a variety of formats (HTML, RGB, HEX, etc.) The latest version is 8.0, which you can download from a variety of sites.

A similar tool, which I have enjoyed for years, is Color Cop (free/donationware).

Firefox users can also install a free extension called Colorzilla, which provides similar eyedropper functionality within Firefox only. But it also adds the ability to zoom Web pages.

Very cool. I like the zoom feature on Colorzilla. TakeColor sort of replicates this with a window that shows a blown up version of the space around your cursor. Not quite as slick, but it works well.
