Trust for Public Land

TPL.org User Experience for Site Redesign

When redesigning a website, it’s imperative to take into consideration information architecture (IA) – how best to arrange information for a positive online user experience. And when the Trust for Public Land wanted to completely rethink its website structure, they called on Beaconfire.

Various elements determine how to structure information throughout a website. To ensure a complete review, Beaconfire conducted stakeholder interviews, card sorting exercises, developed a recommended site map and wireframes and completed user testing in order to build an ideal plan of action.

Trust for Public Lands’ goals for the website included better usability, a clean look and feel and a shift away from the organization pushing content onto visitors. Instead, they wanted to pull visitors in and invite them to stay. To do this, Beaconfire leveraged the organization’s top visual assets – photography from their national programs and campaigns. Not only are these images breathtaking, they provide an ideal way to capture users attention and connect them with issues in their local area.

In addition, the website was migrated to both the Convio content and customer relationship management systems. This provides one platform from where all activities can take place and be stored, making it easier for staff to manage content.

The project for Trust for Public Land included:

  • Information Architecture
  • Content Migration
  • Implementation of Content Management System
