In ancient times beacon fires were a way of sending messages. Set high on hillsides, they signaled the way home to travelers and ships at sea, alerted neighboring communities to dangers or other important news, and helped unite disparate peoples across boundaries and geographies. With their bright light, they helped to cut through the darkness — informing, inspiring, illuminating.
Our name, Beaconfire, reflects our deep commitment to helping nonprofits successfully navigate the increasingly complex world of technology. Today with more choices, channels, and technologies than ever, the need for bright ideas, good direction, and clear vision is greater than ever. Our bright light is fired by our ideas and experience and fueled by the energy, passion, and purpose we employ to produce results that shine for our clients, every day.
Beaconfire’s experience partnering with nonprofits and other cause-related organizations began in 1995 as the nonprofit practice of NMP, which was later acquired by AppNet and then Commerce One Global Consulting Services.
In 2001, a group of colleagues in Commerce One's nonprofit consulting practice began discussing their vision for a new company. Although their views, experiences, and talents were diverse, they shared one common, powerful idea: that the nonprofit community needed expert, objective, results-oriented online technology consulting, and that no existing company was committed to meeting that need. Beaconfire Consulting was created by spinning off the former nonprofit consulting services practice of Commerce One Global Services in October of that year.
Independently owned by two of the founding partners, Lynn Labieniec and Jeff Herron, Beaconfire is devoted to creating results that shine in website design and development, online campaigns and marketing, and Internet strategy for progressive and moderate nonprofit organizations.
Beaconfire has worked with more than 200 clients across a wide range of nonprofit fields: non-governmental organizations, charities, advocacy organizations, foundations, and associations. All of them are leaders in their field. Many are household names. Our business has been, and remains, helping our clients make a difference for their causes through the intelligent and effective use of online technologies.
